The John Barleycorn Society was established by a group of spirits journalists in order to recognize and celebrate excellence across the entire industry. These journalists dedicated several years to developing a comprehensive competition, which eventually became known as the John Barleycorn Awards. A highly skilled team of respected and influential spirits journalists was carefully chosen to oversee the main part of the Awards, the blind tasting. This component was intended to become the leading industry authority in evaluating the taste, quality, and character of spirits.
