Donatella Cinelli Colombini - Fattoria del Colle

Leone Rosso DOC Orcia

    • Description :

Leone Rosso was created in 1998 when Donatella Cinelli Colombini's family gave her Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda. She decided to dedicate her first wine to her ancestors who in 1592 built the estate. It was a historic Sienese family who had in the coat of arms a lion from which this wine took its name. In the year 2000 the DOC Orcia wine region was created in the hilly territory between the famous areas of Brunello and Vino Nobile of Montepulciano. This is a famous region because of its landscape and its cities which are full of art and history. Now the region it has become well known also for producing great wines. This is the reason behind making Leone Rosso according to the DOC Orcia disciplinary. The blend is 60% Sangiovese and 40% Merlot aged 6 months in tonneaux.

Bright, deep ruby red. The aroma is intense, rich with red berries and dusty, earthy tones. This is a medium body wine with good acidity from the Sangiovese and a round soft texture from the Merlot: good balanced of fruit and structure, with soft tannins, making this a wonderfully complex and elegant wine with a persistent finish.
