Domaine Derey Frères

Côte de Nuits, Burgundy

Domaine Derey Frères

Domaine Derey Fréres is located just south of Dijon in the Burgundy region of France. The first traces of a Derey growing vines in Burgundy dates back to 1650. Two centuries later, Claude would be the first Derey to settle down and sow the seeds for the family's wine interests in the village of Couchey, in the heart of what was once known as Dijonnais wine country. At the beginning of the 1950s, brothers Albert and Maurice founded the estate that we know today.
Derey Frères owns 20 hectares spread throughout a number of "climats" ranging from Dijon to Gevrey-Chambertin. Their historic stronghold, only a stone's throw from Burgundy's capital, distinguishes them: Montre Cul and Les Valendons, in addition to the legendary Clos des Marcs d'Or, whose 42 acres were replanted by grandfather Albert in 1981, are worthy (and delicious) ambassadors for Dijon's illustrious wine-making heritage.

The estate also holds 10 hectares of vines in Marsannay (4 "climats": Champs Perdrix, Les Genelières, Champs Salomon, and Les Vignes Marie), a rising appellation and the only hamlet in Burgundy to produce white, red, and rosé wines. This well-balanced collection is completed with Fixin (1er Cru Les Hervelets, Les Clos) and Gevrey-Chambertin (Craite-Paille).

In 2020, Derey Frères took the first steps to become a fully organic producer. This is a three-year process, in which the estate will put in place new methods to better protect the natural environment - from the vineyards to the winery. The end goal is a combination of "organic farming and common sense", and a better relationship between the industry and the environment.
