Casa Piena

Casa Piena is the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon project of Carmen and Gail Policy. After a long career in professional football, Carmen and Gail turned their attention to Yountville, where the Policy Vineyard became the source for a small-production estate Cabernet. The name means "full house" in Italian, a reference to family: the vineyard's five main blocks are named for their three sons and two daughters.

Policy Vineyard is a 14-acre property in the Yountville appellation, with 9 planted acres devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon. The site includes gravelly loam and heavier sandy loam soils, with Cabernet clones 7, 337, 341 and 6 planted in individual blocks. Farming is focused on vine balance and even ripening, using vertical trellising, close spacing, block-specific cover crops, canopy management, pruning and fruit thinning when needed. The estate describes its approach as responsible sustainability.

The wines are made by Thomas Rivers Brown, who has been involved since the beginning of the brand. Vineyard management is led by Matt Hardin, who has worked with the site since 2008 and took on full-time management in 2022. The result is a polished, site-driven expression of Yountville Cabernet: structured, generous and built around the character of a single vineyard rather than a broad Napa Valley blend.
