Matthew Wallace Wines

170 Years in the Making

Matthew Wallace Wines is the product of a family that has farmed the same Napa Valley land since 1852, six generations before a wine label ever existed. That depth of connection to place is not marketing — it shapes every decision made in the vineyard. Grower and vineyard manager Matt Hardin was raised on Wallace Ranch in Pope Valley, a still-wild corner of Napa County well beyond the tourist trail, and his intimate knowledge of its soils, slopes, and microclimates is the beating heart of this project. The philosophy is straightforward: farm each site on its own terms, and let the land do the talking.

A Dream Team

What elevates Matthew Wallace Wines from a compelling story to a serious producer is the talent behind it. Matt Hardin has managed some of Napa's most coveted vineyards, while winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown — one of the most decorated in the valley — has crafted wines for the likes of Maybach, Outpost, and Pulido-Walker. Together, for over fifteen years, they have applied the same rigorous approach here that they bring to Napa's most celebrated addresses, matching clones and rootstocks to each block with the precision of a top-tier estate. The result is small-production, single-origin wines that punch well above their weight.

Single Sites

The portfolio is tightly focused: a Sauvignon Blanc from Hardin Ranch in Pope Valley, where loamy soils and dramatic diurnal swings yield a wine with the vibrancy of California and the texture of fine Bordeaux Blanc, and a trio of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons — Adobe and Section 15 on Wallace Ranch, and the celebrated Block 1 of Regusci Vineyard in the Stags Leap District. Each wine is a precise expression of its site, farmed and made with the kind of care usually reserved for Napa's most expensive bottles — at prices that still leave room for pleasant surprise.
