Castello di Gabiano
Piemonte

Dating back to the eighth century, Castello di Gabiano has been an important strategic stronghold in the region over the ages. The estate has been producing wine for the last four centuries, since the first Marquis of Gabiano was appointed to this land. The estate is now run by Giacomo Cattaneo Adorno, the last Marquis of Gabiano, and his wife, Emanuela, who continue the tradition of making elegant, structured wines in the Monferrato region of Piemonte.
The Monferrato appellation is a hilly region bordered by the
Apennines and the Po and Tanaro rivers. An ancient wine-producing region dating
back to 1200 B.C., it was a highly-valued Roman production area. The Castello
di Gabiano estate has been producing wine for the same length of time,
utilizing natural cellars cut out of rock. At an elevation of 300 meters above
sea level, the estate's vineyards, some of which are over a century old, are
composed of ancient sea sediments and chalky limestone soil. The property
encompasses 260 hectares, of which 22 are planted to vineyards.
