-CORDERO
MARIO marks
the return of one of the most storied families in Barolo's winemaking history,
led by Francesco, Lorenzo, and Caterina Cordero—the grandchildren of Luciana
Vietti and Alfredo Currado.
-With
roots deeply embedded in the prestigious Vietti Winery, where their father, Mario
Cordero,
dedicated his life to pioneering modern Barolo, the Cordero siblings have
embarked on a journey back to their origins in the Langhe region of Piedmont.
-11
hectares of organically-farmed (in conversion) vineyards in the Valentino MGA
(Castiglione Falletto)
planted to a rare clone of Nebbiolo, with vines averaging over 60 years in age
and in Bricco San Pietro (Monforte d'Alba).
A RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS
Led by siblings Caterina, Francesco, and Lorenzo Cordero, Cordero Mario Winery represents the next chapter of one of Barolo's most storied winemaking families. As grandchildren of Luciana Vietti and Alfredo Currado, icons in the Langhe region, the Cordero siblings have returned to their roots to continue a winemaking legacy steeped in tradition and innovation. Their father, Mario Cordero, was instrumental in modernizing Barolo during his time at Vietti Winery, and now the family carries forward his vision.
The vineyard sites are located in the prestigious Valentino MGA in Castiglione Falletto, one of Barolo's most esteemed wine-growing areas, as well as Monforte d'Alba. The Valentino MGA benefits from a unique microclimate, with cooler temperatures that lend freshness and elegance to the wines. This small but remarkable vineyard has deep historical roots, documented as far back as the 1800s.
At Cordero Mario, the winemaking philosophy revolves around minimal intervention. The Cordero siblings believe in allowing the land to express itself, employing organic farming methods that are currently in the process of certification. The family prioritizes sustainability, ensuring that their vineyard practices protect the environment and preserve the health of the vines for future generations. Their artisanal approach in the cellar involves hand-harvesting, whole-bunch fermentation for added complexity, and aging in French tonneaux to balance acidity and build structure. With their commitment to tradition and respect for the land, the Cordero family crafts wines that capture the true essence of Barolo while looking toward the future.
"It's all about terroirs and vines. We, as humans, are all temporary in this world.
These vines are here now and will be for the next generations." -Mario Cordero
