Philippe Livera (Domaine des Tilleuls)
It was Philippe who first began to bottle the wine under his name when he took over in 1986. In 2007 the reins of the estate were passed down to Philippe's son Damien, who was then just in his 20s. Since this time, Damien has improved the vineyard management, upgraded the winery, and raised the quality of the wines. Damien was inspired by and learned from acclaimed Burgundy producers with cult status that he knows as relatives, neighbors, and friends (Dugat, Ponsot, and Mortet, among others) and has quickly established himself as one of the top young winemakers in the Cote de Nuits.
The estate covers 9 hectares in the Cote de Nuits, mainly in Gevrey-Chambertin, with some shares of the prime Crus such as the prestigious Grand Cru Chapelle-Chambertin. Damien is meticulous in the vineyard and ensures that everything is done by hand; he employs organic techniques and believes in minimal intervention. Livera keeps the cellar at very cold temperatures, causing malolactic fermentation to be extremely slow, but resulting in wines with depth and complexity.
With wines of such high quality and precision it is no surprise that Philippe Livera wines continue to gain a loyal following both at home and internationally.
