A RIGHT BANK REVIVAL
Château du Gazin, located in the heart of Canon-Fronsac on Bordeaux's Right Bank, traces its history to 1532 and has been under the care of the Robert family since 1935. In 2004, Georges-Antoine Robert—third generation—took the helm and transformed the estate, shifting its focus from bulk wine production to premium, estate-bottled wines. With a renewed commitment to quality and sustainability, Château du Gazin has become a reference point in Canon-Fronsac, helping elevate the standing of the appellation.
ORGANIC VITICULTURE & SUSTAINABLE FARMING
The estate's 20+ year journey toward sustainability culminated in official organic certification in 2022. Vineyard practices include the use of natural cover crops, manual soil decompaction, careful canopy management, green harvesting, and selective leaf removal—ensuring balance and full phenolic ripeness without over-ripeness. South- and east-facing slopes, combined with proximity to the Dordogne River, offer consistent ripening and lower frost risk.
Each vineyard plot is vinified separately in concrete vats to preserve site expression, with aging in a combination of concrete and French oak barrels to maintain purity and finesse.
WINEMAKING: PURITY OVER POWER
Harvesting is done by hand and machine, with careful sorting on a vibrating table to ensure fruit integrity. All grapes are fully destemmed, then vinified parcel by parcel to showcase individual terroir and optimal ripeness. Macerations are long but gentle, with soft pump-overs to avoid over-extraction.
Aging takes place over 18 months in a mix of concrete vats and French oak barrels. The result is a refined, expressive wine that emphasizes freshness, balance, and the distinctive character of Canon-Fronsac.
COMMITTED TO QUALITY, GROUNDED IN PLACE
With deep historical roots and a clear vision for the future, Château du Gazin stands as a model for what Canon-Fronsac can achieve. Through thoughtful farming, restrained winemaking, and a steadfast focus on terroir, the Robert family continues to craft wines of precision, elegance, and authenticity—capturing the quiet power of Bordeaux's Right Bank.
